The Director for Hire
While running VA medical centers, William Montague secretly consulted for a design firm bidding on VA jobs — selling it inside information about VA construction. 64 counts. 57 months.
While still a VA medical center director, Montague worked as a consultant for an integrated design firm that performed VA work — soliciting and accepting gifts, payments and other things of value in exchange for favorable official actions.
He shared confidential information about VA construction projects and solicited a consulting contract for himself and his own financial-services company, House of Montague. He also lied to VA employees about why he was requesting VA documents and information.
He pleaded guilty to 64 counts, including Hobbs Act conspiracy, honest-services mail fraud conspiracy, money laundering, and wire and mail fraud. The FBI and VA OIG investigated.
"he chose to become self-serving accepting bribes and kickbacks in exchange for favorable official actions"
