The Prosthetics Agent Who Fenced CPAP Supplies for Eight Years
A VA prosthetics purchasing agent used his government card for eight years to buy CPAP supplies and resell them out of state. Over $1.9M. He worked in the department that serves veterans who need equipment to breathe.
Rumph, an Air Force veteran employed by the VA since 2012, processed prosthetic requests at the Fort McPherson clinic in Atlanta and bought equipment with his VA-issued purchase card.
Alongside legitimate purchases, from 2013 to 2021 he made hundreds of unauthorized purchases of CPAP supplies from an Alabama supplier. He then stole the supplies and sold them to a vendor in Ohio.
The VA OIG investigated the case. Rumph pleaded guilty.
"Rumph made hundreds of unauthorized CPAP supply purchases costing the VA in excess of $1.9 million."
