Never Served a Day: The Fake Disabled Veteran Who Took $16 Million
John White claimed to be a disabled veteran and won $16M in VA construction contracts. He had never served in the military at all. 41 months.
From June 2007 through June 2010, White falsely claimed to be both a veteran and disabled to win four federal construction contracts administered by the VA and the Army for VA work in New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland — three of them set aside for businesses owned by disabled veterans.
He had never served in the military at all. During the investigation, he lied to a federal agent about who owned his company and tried to get an actual veteran to falsely claim majority ownership to the VA.
VA OIG, Army CID and SBA OIG investigated. A jury convicted him after a five-day trial in April 2011.
