Forging His Dead Mother’s Signature, Check After Check
His mother — a veteran’s surviving spouse — died in 2014. The VA kept mailing her survivor checks, and her son forged her signature on every one for years. $163,379.
Green’s mother received VA Dependency and Indemnity Compensation by paper Treasury check. After she died in October 2014, the VA kept issuing the checks.
Green forged her signature on each monthly check and deposited them into a bank account he controlled — in total knowingly stealing or converting about $163,379 in benefits meant for surviving family members of deceased veterans.
The VA OIG investigated. He pleaded guilty to theft of government funds.
